Iraqi Ministry of Trade

The Ministry’s responsibility is to promote and develop trade activities and public services, with an emphasis on generating sustainable export growth and development, by enhancing access to foreign markets for domestic companies. The Ministry strives to fulfill Government’s strategic objectives of diversifying the Iraqi economy.

In this regard, MOT is working to formulate more appropriate trade policies and strategies, designed to enhance the capability of the private sector to maximize opportunities, and to attract domestic and foreign investments, and provide attractive incentive packages to investors.

The Ministry is studying the feasibility of joining the U.S. - Middle East free trade zone, and arranging a study to develop Central Markets with the cooperation of the Iraqi private sector.

Baghdad International Fair (BIF), managed by the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, was founded in 1952.  Since that time, the fair has been a host of millions of people. Iraqi Ministry of Construction and Housing

 

The Ministry of Construction and Housing’s goal is to build strong urban and rural communities with a good quality of life for all Iraqis. It offers services in suggesting plans for and executing residential, commercial, industrial, electronic, military, municipal, road and bridge, airport, school and university, institutional and governmental building aspects.

 

The Ministries main duties also includes conducting constructional and economic studies, designing projects through Iraqi, Arab and foreign consultants, and conducting quality control, monitoring, and maintenance activities. 

 

There are three commissions perform their works in the ministry, the Housing Commission; the Building Commission and the Roads and Bridges Commission.

 

More than ten companies lie within the ministry performing different construction activities required by these commissions. Furthermore, several national centers for consultations, construction laboratories and research provide services for the construction market.

Saad State Engineering Company

It is an Iraqi public sector construction company, available for joint ventures, subcontractor and prime contractor arrangements on privately and governmentally funded construction projects in Iraq, especially large technical infrastructure projects that are now critical to the country’s reconstruction.

Saad does not limit its project inventory; it specializes in construction of projects with a cost in excess of $1,000,000, including chemical and petrochemical plants, oil refineries and related civil engineering components, electric power facilities, telecommunications towers, water treatment plants and distribution facilities. Typical projects on which Saad has recently worked include the following: nineteen schools for the Ministry of Education; design of two Basra hospitals, construction of oil refineries for the ministry of Oil with 10,000bpd refining capacity, and construction of water distribution systems in Mosul and elsewhere in Northern Iraq.

Iraqi Ministry of Electricity

 

The Ministry of Electricity has been established in 2003. It was the Commission of Electricity since 1999 and before that the Sector of Electricity.

 

The Ministry of Electricity is responsible for generating, transmitting and distributing of the electrical energy in Iraq.

 

The Ministry aims to operate the electrical power systems from production and transmission to distribution and delivering of electricity to all consumers, develop the electrical power systems to cover the increasing demands on electrical energy, link the electrical networks with the neighborhood countries and the Arabian East and contribute in the Arab market of electrical power, and cooperate with other foundations to raise the efforts to construct programs and to exchange information and experiences.

Iraqi Ministry of Transportation

State Company for Land Transportation:

It was established in 1990, with a fleet of 40 vehicles, and then the numbers developed to 1051 in 2003. It is one of the Ministry of Transportation formations. Its main task is to transfer agricultural, industrial products, food stuff, and different goods inside and out side Iraq.

State Company for Iraqi Railways:

The first railway line was established in 1912 between Baghdad and Al-Eshaqi. First train operation was started in June 1914. Last developed projects for the company were Baghdad, Al-Qa’em, and Aukashat railways accomplished in 1983 and Karkouk, Baiji and hadeetha accomplished in 1987.

 

State Commission for Meteorology and Seismological Observation:

The Iraqi Meteorological was established in 1923 under the name Meteorology Administration. In 1936 its directorate was handed to Iraqi Ministry of Defense. In 1990 the Seismology Department was added to the organization and became the Iraqi Meteorological and Seismology Organization.

Private Transportation Administration was founded in 1938 in Baghdad. In 1950 it was separated from Baghdad Municipality and joined the Ministry of Interior as General Independent Directory.

In 1959 it was separated from the Ministry of Interior and joined up with the Ministry of Municipal. In 1976 it was joined up with Ministry of Transportation. In 1998 it became part of the Ministry of Transport and Communication.

State Company for Civil Airlines

Civil airlines in Iraq started by establishing Al-Mouthana Airport in Baghdad and Al-Maqal Airport in Al- Basra 1933/1936 and were administrated by the British Authorities. Later Al-Basra airport was joined up with the Iraqi Ports Office and Baghdad airport was joined up with the Iraqi Ministry of Defense. In 1945 civil airlines was joined up with the Ministry of Communications and Public Works. In 1948 it carried the name of the state Directorate of Civil Airlines. It’s the main formations are:

2.      State Institution for Iraqi Airline.

Development in port of Basra started In 1919, after the end of World War 1, transferring it from a military port serving British forces, into a commercial port under the control of Iraqi government. In 1922, it became under the direction of the Ministry of Finance.

In 1987 General Establishment of Iraqi Ports was formed. And in 1997 General Company for ports of Iraq was established.

 

Al-Dhilal Company for Passenger and Goods Transportation

The ministry was established in 2003; previously it was called the State Company for Communication, one of the formations of the Ministry of Transportation. The Ministry of Health was established in the middle of last century. Its main task is to provide medical services to Iraqi citizens. Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture

 

The mThe ministry of agriculture was established in 1926, and it was cancelled in 1931. In 1952 it was then reestablished, along with the ministry of Agricultural Reform. The two ministries merged in 1967, then separated again in 1968, and re-merged again in 1972. In 1987 the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Irrigation were combined under the name of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. In 1993, the two ministries were separated again.

 

The ministry aims to achieve agricultural development through conducting researches to increase the agricultural processes and developing activities concerning protecting and guidance, using modern methods in agriculture and supplying agricultural equipments, offering diverse services in the animal and botanical production fields, enforcing agricultural reforming laws and legislations, and carrying out national development plans and agricultural programs.

Located in Iskandariyah – Babylon, it was established in 1968 and was the first industrial project that manufactures agricultural equipments. The company produces tractors, agricultural implements, Irrigation pumps, bolts and nuts, Irrigation systems, and other equipments.

 

State Company for Iron and Steel (SCIS)

The company is located in Basra Governorate - Khor Al-zubair district 1Km south west of Basra. It was established in 1974, it specializes in structural steel, sponge iron and spirally welded steel pipes.

It was established in 1981 and started practical production in 1984. Al- Sumood State Company for Steel Industries

Ibn- Majid State Comp. For Heavy Engineering and Marine Industry

The company is located in Basrah - (Basrah- zubair st.) Alhusain Quarter. It was established in 2001and is the only one in the Southern Region. It is specialized in manufacturing and installing marine equipments, manufacturing and installing Shat Al-Basra Bridge, and manufacturing storage tanks, oil equipments, heat exchangers, steel structures, and marine and river boats and buoys bridges of various sizes and types.

It is located in Babylon – Iskandriah (50Km) South Baghdad. It was established in 1976 and it is specialized in assembling and manufacturing various trailers trucks, buses, trailers, automotive super structures, and developing car–feeding industry.

State Company for Electrical Industries

The State Company for Electrical Industries, located in Wazirya – Baghdad, was established in 1965 and was inaugurated in 1967. In 1972 the lamps factory in Al-Taji was added to it. It is specialized in mechanical – electrical manufacturing.

 

Al-Zawraa Co.

The Company, located in Al–Zaafrania - Industrial area – Baghdad, was established in 1988 on a land of 20500 m and was expanded to produce medium voltage switch boards and electrical distribution substation. Main products include bards, low voltage Medium Voltage Switcher, industrial power supplies, control panels, Motor Control Center (MCC), package out door substations for electrical distribution with its accessories.

 

Al – Tahaddi State Company

The company, located in Al–Zaafrania – Seadh near Baghdad Cement factory – Baghdad, was established in 1993, it is specialized in installation and manufacturing of electrostatic precipitators, design and fabrication of different electromagnetic equipments (current and voltage transformers, vibrators, inductors, electromagnets).

Al – Ikaa State Company

The Company, located in Al–Anbar – Falluja – America, was established in 1984. It is one of the first heavy industries production companies in Iraq. Its production capacity is about 1.5 million working hours annually. The company is specialized in manufacturing spare parts for Ministry of Industry and Minerals Companies, especially cement factories, and other Ministries.

 

AL- Mansour State Company

The company was established in 1975. It is located in Al-kadhemya and Al-Taji – Baghdad. It produces active electric components (small signal transistors and liner ICS),  units to produce the deionized water, solar cell modules, other utilities were erected to produce gases needed such as Nitrogen, Oxygen, Hydrogen and Argon.

The company initiated diodes production with self experience. And in 1980 the company established the Solar Energy Research Center which was named in 1997 the Environmental and Energy Research Center.

 

Specialized Institute for Engineering Industries

The institute was established, it is located in Dorah – Baghdad – Babylon way, the institute started functioning since august 1973, and in April 1978 the institute became a general company. The institute provides consultation and technical services (laboratories testing, quality assurance, product design, mold and dies design, rehabilitation of companies according the ISO9000….etc) for all ministries and private sector companies.

 

AL- Shaheed State Company

The company was established in 1980 to meet the requirements of the Iraqi industry from copper products and its alloys according to the contract concluded with the Austrian Company OIP in partnership with SETYER Company.

 

It is the only company in Iraq in its specialization. The total available capacity according to variety of products presently is around (7000) tons/year.

The company, located in Hay Babil – Baghdad, was established through the consolidation of seven organized units of construction materials production in 1987. it is specialized in the production of construction materials (bricks, thermstone, sand, gravel, concrete poles, frames, pre-stressed concrete poles, plastic pipes & spare parts).

 

Iraqi State Company for Cement

The company, located in Al–Zaafrania – Seadh – Baghdad, was established in Baghdad in 1936 and commenced the production in 1949 with one kiln only (wet process). The company manages and operates four cement factories (Ordinary, Sulfate resistant and white).

 

State company for Northern Cement

The company, located in Ninavah Governorate – Mosul, was established in 1953 in Badoosh old factory as Al Rafideen Cement Co. In 1964 it was combined with Hammam Alalil Cement Factory as Mosul Cement Co. it is specialized in Ordinary Portland cement, Sulfate resistant Portland cement, high blain Sulfate resistant low alkalis cement.

The company, located in Najaf Al–Ashraff / Al-Kufa, established in 1995 consists of eight factories distributed in the southern region and produces ordinary cement in adulation to the production of caustic lime and hydrated lime.

The company, located in Falluja, established in 1994, produces refractory bricks and thermal materials to meet the need of Iraqi Companies for these materials.

 

State Company fro Glass & Ceramic Industry

The company, located in Al-Anbar – Ramadi, was established in 1970 to produce glass sheets and it was expanded to produce ceramic tiles, sanitary materials, glass bottles and table wares.

 

State Company for Geological Survey & Mining

The company, located in Alwiya – Baghdad, was established in 1969 as national Iraqi minerals company, in 1999 it became a state company fully owned by the government, and it applied quality management system in accordance with the ISO 9001.

The company, Al Rashid Road near South of Baghdad Electricity station – Baghdad, It was established in 1985 and expanded in 2002, it is specialized in producing drip irrigation systems and plastic and steel parts.

 

Baghdad Factory for Furniture

Located in Al-Taji – Baghdad, the factory was inaugurated in 1995 then it was joined to the timbers sawing factory in Al-Zafrania and the plant became independent administratively and financially.

The State Company for Wool Industries is one of the oldest yearns and fabrics manufacturing companies, it has been initially established as a Private Sector factory under the trade name of (Fattah Pasha) in 1926. Gradually, this factory started producing blankets and wool fabrics.

 

It is located in AL-Kadhimiya Corniche – Baghdad, and specialized in the production of woven, tuft carpet, fabrics and blankets from Iraqi and imported wool. It is one of the oldest yarns and fabrics manufacturing companies in Iraq.

 

State Company for Cotton Industries

The company, located in Kadhimiya, Adan Sq – Baghdad, had been initially established as a private sector company in 1945 and it had been transferred to the general sector in 1964.

Currently, the company comprises three cotton and blended fabrics factories in Baghdad in addition to medical products factory. It produces ready made clothes for men and women for different ages.

State Company for Leather Industries

The company had been established in 1931 as Bata Company, and then it was combined with the State Company, then with the State Company for leathers in 1945. The State Company for Leather Ind. was formed in 1979.

 

The company produces women, men and children clothes, sport shoes, bags of different kinds from sheep, goats and cows leather. It is located in Karrada – Baghdad.

 

State Company for Ready Made Wear Industries

The company was established in 1988 and recently includes Mosul Children Garment Factory (Walady Factory) and Mosul Textile, Spinning Factory and kirkuk Cotton Gin, the company has long and accumulated experience in the field of ready made wear, textile and spinning this experience qualified the company to get many medals and certificates of appreciation from the central office for standardization and quality control for many years.

 

The company produces different garments for men, women and children for all ages and fabric cotton yarns, mixed yarns and some textile products used in medical purposes.

Wasit Company for Textile Industries

The company consists of two main factories: Spinning & Weaving Factory, started production in 1969, and Weaving & Socks Factory which was established in 1966, and in 2002 Berete Factory was put in service and the two factories were combined into one company in 1971 and was modernized in 1989.

 

The company is located in wassit governorate Kut- city. It is specialized in producing cotton and synthetic fabrics, Knitted and woven and socks.

 

State Company for Textile Industries

The company was established in 1967, production of Viscose Rayon and blends started in 1970. In 1980 the company produced velvet and coblan and lately a number of specialized machines were added to spinning knitting.

State Company for Hand – Made Carpets

The state company for hand made carpets was established on 20/10/1993 depending on local expertise.

 

The company produces different types of excellent hand – woven carpets (silky & woolen) hand – made rugs, spongy pillows, mattresses and other different sewing products.

 

State Company for Vegetable Oils Industries

The company was established in 1970 of several factories such as the Vegetables Oils, Cotton Seeds, Al-Rafidain for Manufacturing Detergents Company, and Abu Al-Hail Soap Company.

 

It is specialized in vegetable chee and liquid oils in different packing, solid and liquid soap, powder detergent liquid detergent and bleaching liquid, cosmetics (shaving cream, tooth paste, lotions, and skin and hand cream), special baby products, company also produce, sulfonic acid, glycerin, fodder products (protein and cotton seed oil cakes), manufacturing and printing tins can, paper, labels and publication the company and other sister companies might need.

State Company for Drugs & Medical Supplies Industry/ Samarra

The project of Samarra Drugs Factory was established in 1959. It started production in 1962. It is specialized in drugs industry and cosmetic.

 

State Company for Dairy Products

The company was established in 1956 (by the support of the ‘UNICEF’) with one line of bottled sterilized milk. Production has expanded to include cream, various types of cheese, yogurt, butter and baby milk production lines.

 

State Co. for Drugs & Medical Supplies Industry / Naniwa

It was established in 2002, it produces drugs, I.V. solutions, and medical appliances.

 

State Company for Sugar Industry

Mosul Sugar and Yeast Factories were established in 1957. It was expanded in 1970 to produce white sugar from beet & raw Sugar.

Can Filed and Sugar Factory in Missan was established in 1967 to produce white sugar from can and raw sugar.

The company was established in 1963 and after it was nationalized it was combined with many private factories to form one company. The company has two main factories: Nasir Factory and Baghdad Factory.

 

State Co. For Petrochemical Industries

State Company for Petrochemical Industries, had been initially established in Basra / Khor Al- Zubair on 1977, Al–Basra Petrochemical Complex (PC1) had been the first project established comprising six major plants (Ethylene, Caustic Soda, Chlorine, Viny 1, Chlorine, Monomer ‘VCM’ Poly viny1 Chloride ‘PVC’ and low density and high density poly Ethylene ‘ LDPE & HDPE)

 

Mishraq Sulphur State Company

The company was established in 1969. A contract has been concluded with Polish Centrozap Establishment to construct the mine of sulphur in Mishraq area. In 1971 the company started production.

 

State Co for Fertilizer Industry / Baiji

It was established in 1987, it is specialized in urea fertilizer production.

The company was established in 1976 with a Capital Amounting 350 Million Iraqi Dinars, in 1983 it started production of phosphate fertilizers in three Kinds compound NP, mono MAP, & tertiary TSP. It is one of the Most Important industrial projects throughout the country.

 

State Company for Rubber Industries

The state company for rubber industry which is located in Al-Diwaniya governorate was established in 1974 & started production in 1978. It produces tires of cross ply type bearing the trademark (diwaniya) under license from the Italian company Pirelli.

 

The state company for Tires Industries

The company was established in 1989 in Najaf. It produces radial tires and (Reclaim), & other rubber products.

State Co. for Paper Industries

It was established in 1970 as Basrah Paper Mill at a cost of 20 million dinars & then expanded to 45 million dinars, then a factory of school requisites was added to it in 1976 at a cost of 6.3 million dinars, Missan Mill was established in 1978 at a cost of 80 million dinars which cover a great part of domestic consumption of various kinds of paper, board carton boxes, kraft paper for cement, exercise books, eggs trays, and pulp & card paper.

 

Al-Furat State Co. for Chemical Industries

The company was established in 1968 with the name of (the State Company for Rayon) in 1995, then it was changed to Al-Furat State Company for Chemical Industries, it includes three factories (chemical plants, plastic sacks plant).

The company is specialized in producing chemical substances, plastic sacks and starch & Dextrin.

State Company for Southern Fertilizer Industry

It was established in 1975 with 170 Million dinars. Production started in 1979. It consists of two units of Ammonia Capacity each one of 1600 ton / Day. Annual capacity of urea fertilizer is 105600 ton.

 

State Company for Batteries Industries

The company was established in 1975 after the general company for producing SLI batteries and dry batteries had been combined, the company consists of BABEL (1 & 2) factory, AL-NOOR factory and the lead foundry.

 

That Al–Sawary State Company for Chemical Industries

The company was established in 1994. It has main operational factories specialized in producing chemical materials.

Ibn Sina State Company

The company is concerned with the research and development and production of fine chemicals and formulations. The main products cover liquid nitrogen silicones, inorganic, organic materials using conventional chemical and electrochemical engineering. The company deals with industrial water treatment, water purification, scale removal, and anti scaling design, and commissioning of chemical plants is also considered within the scope of its capabilities, the company represented by its manpower and accumulated technical experience, research laboratories, equipment are an outcome of the fine industrial and research activities extended for more than twenty years. The company was established in 1992.

 

State Company for Industrial Designs and Consultation (SIDCCO)

Sidcco was established in 1987 as an engineering & execution commission to execute the petrochemical complex in Jurf Al-Sakar site. The head quarter of the company is in Baghdad.

 

The company is specialized in preparing basic and detailed engineering design for chemical and petrochemical projects, and execution and engineering testing of various sectors (industry, oil, electricity, water) private and state sectors.

State Company Industrial Design & Construction

The company was established during the fifties of the last century as a subsidiary directorate of the Ministry of Industry. On the second half of the eighties of the last century it became a State Company. The company had executed most of the state industrial projects, and participated in the reconstruction campaigns.

 

The company performs feasibility studies and projects execution & supervision, as well as setup and examination of different engineering designs.

Since its establishment, the ministry has shaped and supported the higher education process and established structures for higher and technical education.

Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources

 

The ministry is responsible for development and management of the whole water resources of the country. It formulates policies, plans, strategies, guidelines, instructions and acts, rules, and regulations relating to the administration, development and management of water resources, and regulation and control of the projects and institutions reporting to it. It prepares and implements development projects relating to:

- execution and reparations of irrigation projects,

- improvement of stream line and slipping corrosion in the downstream,

- dam pumping of ground water,

- irrigation installation of sprinkler irrigation equipments,

- Excavations execution of drain and structures within execution,

- And, reparations of old drain pump stations,

The ministry also implements evaluating studies and investment researches of ground water, and formulates water resources plans.
